The City of Lake Mary, known as the City of Lakes, launched its new website today.
The new site is based on Virtual Towns & Schools new Drupal content management system, and open source system that allows VT-S to take advantage of a technology that has been embraced by 1,000's of government websites across the country, including the White House and US House of Representatives.
Utilizing a Web-based content management interface authorized users can log into any page and edit it directly, using a standardized WYSIWYG publishing tool, or copying and pasting text directly from Word documents. Once the page is created or edited the system provides the ability to schedule the page for publication, and removal if necessary, and also provides the ability for content editors to preview the page prior to getting final approval from their departmental administrator.
As a page is edited a copy is automatically created to provide versioning control and archiving, and the ability to revert to a previous edition should the need arise.
The CMS also provides the ability to automatically link the page in a variety of different locations depending on its taxonomic characteristics. Should the page ever be updated you will not need to worry about any of the links being broken, and should the page ever be deleted all taxonomic links will also automatically disappear.
Each department can determine whether they want their pages to be subscribable, or only their news bulletins. With its Web 2.0 features the site can easily integrate with your Facebook or Twitter site with the simple click of a button.
For the millions of citizens that are now using mobile devices as their primary web access the site will automatically reconfigure navigation to meet the needs of the smaller platforms. Each user can also choose to view the whole site with the tap of a button.
The site design and development was provided by e-City Services LLC, a leader in providing website development and content management services and support to Florida municipal governments since 2006.
